Crunchy Fruit

I found a yummy treat at Costco the other day. They are called All Natural Fruit Crunchies. If you remember those packets of Astronaut Ice Cream these little fruit bits have the same texture. Think crunchy fruit chip versus rubbery dried fruit.

They are made through a freeze-drying process, in which the individual fruits are frozen and then placed in a refrigerated vacuum chamber that draws out the moisture. Apparently this process allows them to retain the nutrition that is generally lost through traditional heat drying of fruits.

They have a bunch of different flavors, all pineapple, all strawberries, all mango, all blueberries, mixed fruit, mixed berry, etc. The Tropical Fruit Mix contains: Apples, Blueberries, Bananas, Cherries, Raspberries, Pineapple, Mango.

I've been eating them as a snack plain but you could add them to cereal or use as a topping on Fage yogurt or ricotta cheese.

The variety box at Costco contains 9 packets (3 each strawberry, mixed fruit, tropical fruit). $9.79 (a little over a buck a bag) so yeah a regular piece of fruit is cheaper but these are tasty and pretty cool and sad but true it would be way easier to get kids to eat these than an apple.

If you can't find them at your local Costco here's an online source (bigger bags).

Here's the nut facts:

They are 100% real fruit, no sugar added, fat free, gluten-free, wheat-free, preservative-free, and additive-free.
