The tragedy of 9/11 was one of the motivating factors in my deciding on weight loss surgery. I had been really thinking about it after my Dad died (weight related death: sleep apnea, heart failure) but I was certain when I heard the stories of people evacuating the Twin Towers. I watched that morning as hundreds walked down 70, 80 flights of narrow stairs... the brave firefighters squeezing past with their hoses and gear. As the horror of that day unfolded I thought, "At 295 pounds how would I ever do that? I can't walk across a parking lot without being out of breath." I knew my life had to change.
Light a candle.
