Girl Scout Cookie Combat Protein Shakes

It's that time again. There's no getting away from them. Those smiley-angelic faces are everywhere, a sweet chorus of little voices, "Would you like to buy some cookies?" In my neighborhood you can't get in a store or bank without being hit up. The itsy-bitsy Daisies (first level Girl Scouts) are the worst. That should just be illegal, they are too darn cute. How do you say "No" to those?! It's just plain mean.

Ahhh but mean I must be because those little angels are hawking some of my pre-op crack. Not sure they still are packaged this way but Thin Mints boxes used to come with two sleeves of cookies inside. Wasn't that two portions? ;) Seriously though it's way too easy to eat a ton of them so since weight loss surgery they just don't get through my door.

Still jonesing for those iconic Girl Scout cookie flavors. Try these healthier ways to satisfy the urge...

This year in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, in addition to classic favorites like Thin Mints, Samoas, and Tagalongs, the little whippersnappers will sell a new lemon cookie called Savannah Smiles (Savannah, GA is the birthplace of founder Juliette Gordon Low) so of course I had to make a yummy lemony alternative...

Ways you can still support the Girl Scouts:

Buy the cookies and leave the boxes with the troop. I'm sure the girls would like a snack (it's hard work selling crack) or can re-sell those boxes to others (double their $) or some troops are collecting cookies for Operation: Taste of Home (cookies for the US soldiers serving overseas)

If your sister, friend at work, neighbor is asking you to buy them from their kids and you feel like you must *cough* emotional blackmail. Tell your sister, friend at work, or neighbor to keep the cookies. They can figure out what to do with them.

Donate your saved cookie $ to the Girl Scouts. I was a Girl Scout (photo evidence below) The cookie sales money we made helped us go camping each year. Give them money instead.

Eggface Food Blogger Weight Loss Health Writer Or if you can be strong on the car ride... buy the boxes and drop them off at your nearest food bank.

Shelly, these shakes sound great! Thanks for providing an alternative to the cookies, but especially for also giving an idea of how we can help the scouts without derailing our own efforts toward healthy eating!

GREAT post! I am always hit up by the little girls at church each year - fortunately, our Eastern Pageant is soon after, so I buy the cookies and leave them at the church for the refreshment tables afterwards.

Thank you a hindred times! Girl Scout cookies are on my list of sneaky evil foods i have no control over. Your shake recipes sound like just my ticket to avoid them. I has VSG this past September and need to stay on the right path!

I often ask the girls if I can make a donation to their troop in lieu of a cookie sale. The troop gets to keep only 10 - 20% of the profits from the sale of each box. Based on last years prices, that was about 40 to 80 cents a box. I think I'll just donate this year, although I do like the idea of sending them to our troops or the food bank.

I had the Samoa alternative this morning for breakfast. I really, really wanted the Savannah Smiles, but alas, no lemon pudding in the house. Can't wait to try it, though.

I love the fact that you make all these to combat girl scout cookie cravings. I used to be a girl scout and I remember selling those cookies.

I do wish for the crunch of the cookie tho. When I want a tag a long it's not just the flavor I crave, its the texture too.

Love your blog!!! You are so creative! Thanks for all the great recipes and ideas, as well as all the information you post. Keep up the good work!!

Have you thought about adding any spinach to your shakes? It makes them green, and adds a little sweetness and a ton of nutritional value.

Our son is serving in Afghanistan and at GS cookie time, we bought 12 boxes of thin mints and have been mailing them to him one box at a time for a taste of home. I have not been tempted for fear of dumping.
