Where I've been...

Regular readers will have noticed that blog entries have been spotty the last few days. I wanted to explain what's been going on in my world. I've been in Florida. My sister-in-law lost her 6 month battle with cancer. A healthy, active, non smoker. She had a few headaches and a cough that wouldn't go away and was diagnosed with lung, liver and brain cancer in the last stages. She was only 50 years old.

I think it's our human nature to try and find some meaning and order to the chaos that death brings. What I am taking from this sad week is that life is short. We are only guaranteed the moment we are in and none of the precious time we are gifted should ever be wasted. It should be spent doing things you love with the people you love because it can too quickly change.

Something you all know I love is the beach. It's my zen zone. Here's the one I spent each morning looking at while in Florida...

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have had a number of friends/family diagnosed with cancer this year (including my youngest sister and a very dear friend). I also lost a very good friend to cancer earlier in the year. It's been tough, but you are right in that we need to cherish every moment we are given. Time is not promised to any of us. I wish peace and love for your family.

Shelley, I am so sorry for your loss. The loss of those we love is one of the most painful experiences of living! I lost my husband six years ago on Dec.11th. Hurt lessens eventually and we can again feel the beauty in every day. I wish you and your family healing peace.

Oh, I'm so sorry. It's never easy- 50 or 80, but it is just so shocking when it is 50. Cancer is just everywhere. Soo many people I know have it. It's amazing. So sad. A virtual hug coming your way.

Holy cow Shelly! My condolances.

I came across your site while trying to find distributors of Max Protein. None were in my area that I could find so I bought 100% Gold Standard Whey Dbl Rich Chocolate from GNC.

I lost my husband to diabetes 9/07. I wished I could say he fought it. But he is in a better place and so are my son and I. I'm training form my 3rd marathon and doing my best to keep my 13 yr old eating healthy too. :-D

I just want to say I love your site!!!! One of the first things I want to make is the chocolate truffles. I'm very disciplined but sweets are my weakness. ;-)

I hope you have a safe and wonderful Christmas! :-D

Michelle,
Oh no,at such a young age and at Christmas too.
I am soooo sorry!
Please know that you have a "family" of sorts here, (as you can see by the replies), that love you dearly, and send you much support and care. Wrap that around you as you sit and listen to the waves. Prayers and blessings to you and yours.

Shelley - we don't get to chat much, but I don't think there's any doubt how I feel about you. Your wonderful talent in the kitchen has saved my life post-WLS. I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet sis-in-law. My Dad passed away in 2007 from the very same thing - lung, liver, brain, non-smoker. He walked 2 miles a day up until he was diagnosed and died 4 weeks later. So fast and aggressive (melanoma). I know the pain and loss you are feeling, but knowing that we'll see them again one day keeps me going. I hope you and your family can find a way to enjoy the holidays and remember her with smiles and laughter, as I'm sure she would want to be remembered. On a more positive note, I hope you noticed that your Protein Fudge was a big part of last week's BTV episode. I plan to make it for the holidays! Thanks again for all you do for us. We love you!

Shelly, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have been a strong believer for many years things happen for a reason even though we may not like them or understand why god needed her more. Your family is in our prayers this holiday season. Tammara

I am so sorry for you and your family. It is never easy to lose someone so dear from something so horrible, but at Christmas, it is especially sad. I hope that you can feel all the prayers that everyone is sending out to you and your family and that you can be at peace with the fact that she is no longer suffering here on earth.
